Renault to cut another 2,000 jobs

Renault to cut another 2,000 jobs in France. The company is in talks with unions about laying off 1,600 technical employees and 400 employees in support roles between 2022 and 2024.

Renault already announced last year that it would cut around 14,600 jobs worldwide and cut production capacity by almost a fifth. This means that 2,000 more jobs will now be cut. Like almost all other car manufacturers, Renault has been badly hit by the corona crisis. As a result, the production and delivery of new cars lagged behind and on top of that there is now also the chip shortage. In addition, Renault is lagging behind rivals such as Volkswagen and Stellantis in its recovery. This is mainly because Renault is largely dependent on the European market. It is recovering more slowly than the Chinese or American market.

Meanwhile, Renault Group is trying to speed up the transition to electric driving, and that naturally also involves a lot of money. By 2025, nine new electric cars – spread across the different brands of Renault Group – are to be on the market, which will be made in France. This includes the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric and the new Renault 5, but also electric models from Alpine.
