The passenger versions of the significantly refreshed Renault Trafic, announced at the beginning of November, will be available at dealers from May; prices will be announced in April. Striking news is the announced Escapade version as a ‘recreational vehicle’. Unfortunately, the much more important delivery van will not arrive until the end of this year, an EV at all.
The Trafic, introduced in 2014 and facelifted in 2019, can go for another lap. Not surprising in its segment, where life cycles are much longer than with passenger cars. At the same time, the now announced Trafic Combi and SpaceClass do fall into the latter category. The latter version, intended for VIP transport, is an addition to the range for the Netherlands, but elsewhere a longer model. The Combi is simpler and is considered the passenger bus of the two. Renault reports very little about the new Trafic Escapade version: ‘Customers who want to go on an adventure will find exactly what they need with the Escapade version. This version is designed as a recreational vehicle, the sofa can easily be converted into a bed (maximum length 1.90 meters). The removable table and the additional reading light on the side make it the perfect companion for a stress-free outing. ‘ Renault may be hinting at its use as a camper with this.
Duo passenger airbag
The refreshed exterior and interior have already been discussed in our message from November last year, as well as the available engines and transmissions; Renault now also reports that the latest generation is equipped with adaptive cruise control, an active emergency brake assistant, lane assistant and blind spot warning. Another new feature is that the passenger airbag now also offers protection for the passenger traveling in the middle seat. We no longer have to expect an electric version of this generation of Trafic from electric pioneer Renault, unless a third party is going to take care of the conversion.
