Plug out plug-in?

The delivery range of the Renault Mégane has become twofold since the arrival of the electric Mégane E-Tech. After all, the ‘traditional’ Renault Mégane, introduced eight years ago, is also still for sale. The delivery range of that Mégane has been simplified and now the car is available in even fewer flavors.
The Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric and the non-electric Mégane are brotherly side by side in the showrooms, but they differ from each other like night and day. Where the electric and only two-year-old Mégane E-Tech Electric is on the CMF-EV platform and is therefore a technical sister model of the Nissan Ariya, the Mégane with combustion engine is a car that has been around for much longer. The Mégane Hatchback was already cut from the delivery range in 2021 and you could only go for the Mégane Estate. Now the list of powertrains available for the car is being thinned out considerably.
Renault Megane
Until recently, the Renault Mégane Estate was still available with two traditional petrol engines and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The 160 hp TCe 160 is no longer available and the powertrain known as Plug-in Hybrid is no longer available. What remains? Only the 140 hp TCe 140 petrol engine, but Renault also puts the scissors in what is available for that machine. For example, this 1.3 could previously be connected to both an automatic transmission and a manual gearbox. Now only the version with EDC automatic is left.
Is there still something to choose? Yes! Anyway. The Renault Mégane TCe 140 with automatic transmission was previously only available in Techno trim. From now on, the Mégane with this powertrain and transmission is also available as a less expensive Equilibre. The Renault Mégane TCe 140 with automatic transmission costs €34,535 as an Equilibre and changes hands as a more fully equipped Techno from €37,335.
At the time of writing, Renault cannot yet tell us whether currently discontinued powertrains will return at a later date. As soon as we know more, you will of course read it on AutoWeek.nl.
