Renault 4 Retrofit electric

Classic cars are increasingly being transformed into EVs. Now this is also possible with the Renaults 4, 5 and the first Twingo. Renault joins forces with R-Fit, which previously also made the Citroën 2CV electric.

The French R-Fit focuses on making classic (only French) cars electric. That started with the Citroën 2CV and now the company also has official approval from Renault. That was undoubtedly not necessary to transform classic Renaults into EVs, but Renault is happy to put the company’s efforts in the spotlight on its stand at Retromobile. There, Renault parked three iconic little ones with an electric powertrain from R-Fit.

The electric Renault 4 is mainly highlighted by Renault, because that conversion can already be ordered from this month. R-Fit equips the R4 with an electric motor with a peak power of about 65 hp and the fuel tank makes way for a 10.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. A range of about 73 km should then be possible. That is certainly not much, but it can be used, for example, in urban areas if emission-free zones are introduced there in the future. Charging can be done via a regular socket and takes about 3.5 hours. The conversion is not cheap, by the way: the French ask €11,900 for it.

Renault Twingo Retrofit

R-Fit is now also working on electric powertrains for the R5 and the first Twingo, which is why they were already on the stand. The Twingo shown is immediately extra thickly dressed and provided with the new Renault logo. R-Fit expects to have the conversion for the R5 ready in September, the Twingo will follow later.
