Zero Motorcycles revamped the Zero SR, the original electric naked street bike and one of the brand’s most long-running models, for the 2022 model year. The new SR is now in the showrooms of Zero dealers in the Benelux.

The 2022 SR is built around the same distinctive external tubular steel truss frame as its premium counterparts SR/F and SR/S. In addition, the model also shares the same engine platform. For example, the SR is standard equipped with the ZF 75-10 power source, in this SR good for 166 Nm of torque, 75 hp power and a top speed of 167 km/h. The brand new Cypher III+ operating system manages the technology on the 2022 SR.
“The SR is known as the motorcycle that defined the naked street electric motorcycle category. So it’s only natural that we’re introducing all of our new technologies just on this model,” said Zero Motorcycles CTO Abe Askenazi. “With the implementation of a rich array of never-before-seen features, the SR becomes the most customizable motorcycle ever. In this way he ensures his prominent place for the coming years.”
The Zero SR’s evolved Z-Force lithium-ion battery has a higher energy density without increasing mass. The improved energy source, with a renewed design and architecture, has a capacity of 14.4+ kWh. The plus sign indicates that the battery pack can optionally be expanded to 17.3 kWh.
Combining the new battery with the optional Power Tank (available in the first quarter of 2022) maximizes the battery pack for a total capacity of 20.9 kWh. That’s the largest capacity ever aboard a Zero, and good for a range of 365 km in the city or 182 km at 113 km/h.
“As a defining brand of electric motorcycles, we have a responsibility to take great strides in all areas. We should not just build on repetitive improvements,” said Sam Paschel, CEO of Zero Motorcycles. “Range, and therefore battery capacity, is a fundamental anchor point for a better driving experience. In addition, it stimulates the transition to electric motorcycling. Therefore, our main focus has been to implement this new standard in our 2022 lineup.”

Furthermore, the SR can now also use the public EV charging network thanks to the Mennekes (Type II) connector. Zero Motorcycles also offers Wall Outlet Adapters (Type II to wall plug) for charging the battery at home, at work, or anywhere a normal wall outlet is available.
Cypher III+ is the latest version of Zero’s operating system and is installed by default on the 2022 SR (as well as the SR/F and SR/S). The new system gives Zero riders access to another industry first: the Cypher Store. It’s an on-demand marketplace that gives owners access to upgrades that improve their engine’s performance in a variety of ways.
Options available from launch include faster charging (Faster Charging), extended range, speed and performance boost (Speed & Performance Boost), parking mode (Park Mode), heated grips and navigation via the display (On-Dash Navigation).
All of these improvements can be added effortlessly to the 2022 SR (as well as to the SR/F and SR/S). Cypher Store upgrades will be available in the Zero Motorcycles smartphone app and also at www.zeromotorcycles.com/cypherstore.
“The ability to personalize your motorcycle on-demand is nothing short of revolutionary,” said Jeremy Kent, CEO of Software and Parts & Accessories, Zero Motorcycles. “We make it possible to immediately adjust the performance just using a Wi-Fi signal. That profoundly changes the interpretation of how Zero bikes can grow and evolve with the rider.”
The 2022 SR will be available in the Graphite livery from €19,720 in Belgium and the Netherlands. The new model is now available in the showrooms of the various Zero dealers in the Benelux.
