Subtlety knows no time
A wattle from an SUV on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife looks like a polar bear in the desert. Not if the gentlemen and ladies of BMW’s M department have interfered with the model. These photos show the renewed BMW X6 M in action on the famous German circuit, a beast that seems to feel at home on the more than 20 kilometer long track.
The BMW X5 and X6 will soon receive a facelift and the M versions are not forgotten. Those M versions are perhaps even less rational than the low models with M badges of the brand. Take the BMW X6 M, with a vehicle weight of almost 2,300 kilos, which is still several hundred kilos heavier than the ‘lightest’ X6, which weighs about 2 tons. That higher weight is partly due to the engine that BMW’s M department has spooned into the nose of the X6 M. There is no 3.0 six-in-line, but a beastly 4.4 V8. Thanks to that eight-cylinder, the current X6 M has 600 hp, while the X6 M Competition even puts on 625. In a world that seems to be increasingly dominated in our part of the world by EVs and car manufacturers who claim that electric cars are paramount, is there still room for such bunglers? Yes, of course.
These spy photos show the facelifted version of the BMW X6 M. He probably just gets another monstrous V8 that makes the car so irrational that it becomes interesting. It is obvious that these are the same eight-cylinder engines as before the facelift, although BMW could in theory also spoon the new V8 that it will deliver in the XM in the M versions. However, that seems unlikely.
The renewed X6 M will undoubtedly have access to BMW’s new iDrive 8.0 infotainment system, just like the upgradeable versions of the X5 and X6. From the outside you will recognize the renewed X5s and X6s by new, flatter headlights and revised bumpers and that also applies to the M versions. Previously, the X5 and X6 had almost the same front as the larger X7. The X7 was recently facelifted and received a completely new front, complete with lighting divided over two layers. That muzzle pass the X5 and X6. We expect the facelifted BMW X5 and X6 to show their faces this year.
