Mazda recently presented the updated MX-5 in its home country Japan. Now it has also been shown to the world for the European market. As could be expected, the refresher round for our continent no longer causes any major surprises.

The Mazda MX-5 of the ND generation has now been in service for about eight years, but it cannot be retired for the time being. With the Iconic SP unveiled today, the brand is already looking ahead to the next MX-5, but it will take until 2025 before it is followed up in production. The fourth generation of the popular roadster is therefore getting a refresher so it can compete again in the coming years. At the beginning of this month, Mazda already presented the updated MX-5 to Japanese consumers, now it’s our turn.

We noticed that several photos associated with the ‘European facelift’ are simply mirrored versions of photos we saw during the Japanese renewal round. That pretty much tells the whole story; the refreshed Mazda MX-5 (although here with left-hand drive) is also coming this way in the same form. This means that you can expect a new light signature in the – now always equipped with LED – headlights and taillights, that there is a new 8.8-inch instead of a 7-inch infotainment screen and that there are new colors for the interior and exterior. become available. The Aero Gray Metallic shown on the open MX-5 is new, as is a beige soft top.

Technical changes are minimal. There is a new driving mode called ‘Track’, which, according to Mazda, should keep oversteer manageable while you are still having fun with the MX-5. At the Japanese unveiling, there was also talk of a differently adjusted limited-slip differential and power steering and the 1.5 is now 136 hp instead of 132 hp. You can read more about those innovations here. It is not yet known when the updated Mazda MX-5 can be ordered in the Netherlands. The prices will also be announced at a later date.
