More than 1,000 electric horsepower in action
Porsche will present the updated Taycan in a few months. To emphasize that the electric GT is, above all, particularly sporty, Porsche has rushed a pre-production version around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
Porsche has woken up development driver Lars Kern for an impressive test session with the updated Taycan. A packed test sample was ready to be driven around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, an adventure that was completed quite quickly. Kern drove the updated Taycan over the 20 kilometer long German circuit in a time of 7:07.55. That lap time was no less than 26 seconds faster than his lap with a Porsche Taycan Turbo S as you know it today.
The test Taycan was not completely standard. For safety reasons, it was equipped with a roll cage, but also with racing bucket seats to keep Kern properly in place. On the Schwedenkreuz section of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the updated Taycan was 25 km/h faster than the Turbo S with which Kern previously embarked on the Ring adventure.
Is the new Taycan so much tighter than the outgoing one? Possibly, but it is likely that Lars Kern did not simply achieve the time of about 7 minutes and 7 seconds with the Turbo S version of the updated Taycan. The current Porsche Taycan Turbo S is of course very strong with its 761 hp, but the revised Taycan seems to be producing a top model with more than 1,000 hp, with which Porsche is aiming its sights on the Tesla Model S Plaid, which produces 1,020 hp. The intense wing work of the Taycan with which Kern clocked his new time somewhat indicates that he was driving a Turbo S. The modified Taycan will see the light of day in mid-March.
