Volkswagen has made a facelift on the Teramont, the Chinese equivalent of the SUV called Atlas in the United States. Volkswagen is also immediately tackling the ‘coupe version’ of the Teramont: the Teramont X.
The Volkswagen Atlas appeared on the market in the United States in 2016 and was renamed Teramont for the Chinese market shortly afterwards. The Atlas was facelifted in February 2020 and now it is also the turn of the Teramont.
Volkswagen Teramont (2016 – 2021)
The renewed Teramont differs considerably at the front and rear from the version that was presented in 2016. The updated Volkswagen Teramont also takes more distance from the American Atlas. The 5.04-meter-long SUV, built by the SAIC-Volkswagen partnership, will have a modified front bumper, but it is the headlights and grille that have been more thoroughly redesigned. The grille has only one horizontal louvre, a horizontal strip in which, just like in the Volkswagen logo, LED lighting is also incorporated. On both sides of the grille are new headlights, which are less angular and now have a spur at the corners.
The lighting at the back has also been renewed. The previously present spur at the bottom disappears, the chrome strip that covered almost the entire width of the rear, now continues thanks to the flatter rear lights. The rear lights themselves have a new layout and are now connected with a red LED strip and a red reflective panel. Here too, the Volkswagen logo is equipped with LED lighting.
Teramont X
The Teramont X is the ‘coupé variant’ of the Teramont, presented in 2019, the Chinese equivalent of the Atlas Cross Sport that later appeared on the American market. The adjustments that Volkswagen makes to the Teramont X are limited to the bumper work. In addition, it is now also available with LED matrix viewers. By the way, don’t be fooled by the 380 TSI badge on the rear of the car. The number 380 does not represent power. The 380 TSI is just a 2.0 TSI that delivers 220 hp and 350 Nm. Whether the 530 V6, the 299 hp and 300 Nm strong 2.5 V6, returns to the Teramonts remains to be seen.
