Toyota GR Yaris
Toyota gets everything out of the closet for the GR Yaris. Nothing has been left to chance to make a real “hot hatch” of the Yaris.
The Toyota GR Yaris is not just another Yaris with some extra horsepower, thick bumpers and tighter springs. Toyota has technically rigorously rebuilt the model. Even the platform has been partially changed to realize the sporting ambitions. The rear part of the chassis is borrowed from the larger Corolla.
The dedication of Toyota goes far. The brand has developed a new engine especially for the fast Yaris. The three-cylinder has a total capacity of 1.6 liters and is equipped with a turbo. The power is 261 hp, the torque 360 ​​Nm. The performance? From 0 to 100 km / h in less than 5.5 counts and a (limited) top speed of 230 km / h. Weight gain is limited by the use of carbon fiber and aluminum. Each horsepower only needs to move 4.9 kilos. Switching is done manually in the GR Yaris.
To be able to transfer the torque to the road, Toyota has equipped the GR Yaris with four-wheel drive. The GR Four system can steer 100 percent of the forces forwards or backwards, but in the standard driving position the distribution is 60/40. In the sports mode, the ratio shifts to 30/70, which means that most of the power goes to the rear wheels.
Impressive performance requires an impressive appearance and that is what Toyota has taken care of. The model is equipped with expanded wheel arches and an impressive front bumper with a huge air intake. 18-inch alloy wheels, a diffuser and of course the fact that the GR Yaris is a three-door model further contribute to the sporty appearance.
The Toyota GR Yaris only comes to the Netherlands in the second half of the year. The price is not known yet.
