Caterham has been keeping a beautiful piece of British car history alive with the Seven since 1973. Once in a while the brand comes up with a new variant based on the two-seater, with this Super Seven 1600 as the latest addition.
Speaking of long-term: the Lotus Seven based Caterham Seven has been in production for 47 years now and the British still do not know how to stop. The latest addition is this Super Seven 1600. A version that is available for both the ‘standard’ Seven S3 and the slightly larger SV. The Super Seven 1600 is especially distinguished in appearance, because although the Seven naturally looks classic, various details provide an even more classic touch. Tranquil colors, no race stripes, chrome panels on the rear wheel arches, signature rear-flared wings above the front wheels and retro wheels emphasize the extra hint for the past with the Super Seven 1600.
Technically, the new variant is not very different from other Sevens that are not so much focused on the rough tearing. The Super Seven 1600, as the name ‘1600’ already somewhat reveals, has a naturally aspirated 1.6 Ford engine under the hood by Caterham. That is good for a power of 137 hp and is linked to a manual five-speed gearbox. In the only 565 kilos of ‘heavy’ Caterham, that drivetrain is good for a sprint from 0-100 km / h that can be completed in five seconds. So don’t be fooled by the friendly appearance, this is like the fire brigade. For that you have to put down a good blow of money; Caterham charges a minimum of € 38,247 in the UK for the Super Seven 1600.
