Great Wall presented a very striking show car on the Auto China exhibition floor. The study model is called ‘Trendy’ and is a special retro appearance from every angle.
The Chinese colossus Great Wall Motors has presented a concept car which it says has christened Chaopai, a Chinese term that translates to something like ‘trendy’ or ‘fashionable’. Incidentally, it also says ‘Futurist’ on the back, so it is not entirely clear which name we can keep. In any case, the car is successful. The special concept car has become a particularly classically designed model!
The cheerful Great Wall Motors show car has a relatively bright looking muzzle, with a large but especially closed grille that has two vicious headlights equipped with LED matrix technology on either side. We also observe two lamps in front of the grille, most likely the fog lamps. The sedan has cameras mounted on sticks that act as side mirrors and has a remarkably smooth appearance. In addition, the ‘Trendy’ must be equipped so-called suicide doors and that means that the rear doors open ‘the other way around’. The car does not have a B-pillar, which actually makes it a four-door hardtop according to the classical sense. The small spoke wheels with their relatively thick rim edges are a nice retro element again. The slippery back has the atmosphere of the seventies and early eighties.
The interior is also a classic party. Although there is a small digital display behind the wheel on which the speed can be read and there is also a screen placed centrally on the dashboard, the whole looks very retro. Small circular air vents, the vintage color scheme and the slim steering wheel, complete with inner semicircle for the horn, contribute to the ultimate classic car experience. Great Walls attention grabber must be able to drive autonomously (level 3), according to the company. Other modern things come in the form of an inductive charger, 5G connectivity and a 360-degree camera. Great Wall does not release information about the powertrain, but it is likely that the ‘Trendy’ has an electrical heart. However, the car is said to be on a base that also accommodates conventional drive.
The question is still under which brand Great Wall will carry a possible production version. With Ora, the company owns a brand that focuses entirely on the development and production of electric models that are topped with a classic design sauce. Should there be a production version, it is obvious that the Trendy will become an Ora.
