The Huawei FREEARC Open-Ear earbuds must set a new standard for open-ear audio with ear hooks, Triple Call Noise Cancellation and a C-Bridge design. In this review, read how they perform and how they do it compared to other wireless earbuds.

At the MWC Tech Fair in Barcelona, Huawei presented a number of new products, including the teasible folding smartphone Huawei Mate XT. Huawei has previously announced the FREEARC: the first open-ear earplugs with ear hooks, a sturdy fit that stays in place even during intensive activities and an IP57 water resistance certificate. As a result, this FREEARC Open-Ear Oordopjes must offer top quality for music and conversations and in this review I look at whether these promises are being realized.
Design
The Huawei FREEARC consists of three important components: the comfort droplet (silicone earplug that increases comfort), the Acoustic Bean (part that helps to deliver clear sound) and the C-Bridge. The C-Bridge adapts flexibly to the shape of the ear for optimum comfort and recovers to its original form after distortion. This ensures a stable fit: they stayed in the right place while running and cycling. Thanks to the largely silicone coating, I think the ears feel soft. In contrast to other ears that close the ear canal, these earbuds remain ‘open’, so that you can continue to hear environmental sounds such as traffic. Incidentally, there are also headphones where you can hear without your ears and through bone guide. You can read how that works in this article!
I hardly noticed them, which makes wearing extra comfortable. Moreover, they are good to wear with earrings or glasses.

Sound
The Huawei FREEARC offers an impressive sound experience, especially given the design. Through a 12 x 17 mm high sensitive driver, an even sound distribution and the Adaptive Equal-Loudness Algorithm, the Huawei Freearc provides a good sound display and a powerful bass. Through the Reverse Sound Waves System, the sound is directly directed to the ear canal. What I really like is that the Dynamic Bass Algorithm and Adaptive Equal-Loudness Algorithm automatically adjust the noise level to maintain the right balance between bass and high tones, regardless of the volume.
With the Huawei FREEARC I can also call well and therefore intelligibly. Moreover, there is not only a stable connection, thanks to the Triple Call Noise Cancellation and the dual microphone system you have fewer problems with ambient sounds, so that votes remain clear. I regularly call others when I am outside and even if it is windy or I am in an environment where there is a lot of ‘noise’, I can still have a good conversation.
Usage
One of the biggest benefits of the FREEARC is the comfort. Because they are not in the ear canal, I think they cause less pressure and irritation with long -term use. If you don’t like those traditional earbuds or in-ears that you really have to put in your ears, then this is a finer solution. You would think that open-ear earplugs in noisy environments will let some noise escape, but in practice that is not so bad, partly due to the targeted sound design.

Battery
Huawei promises a solid battery life for the Freearc and in practice they perform well. For example, they last about 8 hours and thanks to the handy charging case you extend this to about 32 hours. The case is compact and easy to carry, although it is slightly larger than that of most ears.
Price, colors and availability
The Huawei FREEARC is available in three colors, namely black, green and gray. He has a suggested retail price of € 119.99 and is available via https://consumer.huawei.com/nl/headphones/freearc/buy. Now temporarily (until March 30) 20 euros discount with code A20FREARCNL.
Conclusion
The Huawei FREEARC are comfortable and sport -friendly wireless earbuds with good sound and strong conversation quality. Athletes and active users in particular will appreciate these earbuds thanks to the fit and the IP57 water resistance. With a price of € 119.99, they are pricey compared to other wireless earbuds. Also keep in mind that Open-Ear Audio does not offer the same insulation as ‘normal’ in-ears with ANC. If you are looking for comfortable earbuds with good sound quality and good battery life, then the Huawei Freearc earplugs are a great choice.
