Review: ‘Maybach in the second chance’

Daimler, meanwhile, has had a rather turbulent history with Maybach, with varying degrees of success. As a last resort for Maybach as a standalone brand, two models are given a mild facelift exactly ten years ago.

On April 24, 2010 Maybach sends the updated versions of the 57 and 62 to the world. The luxury sleds have been driving for around eight years under Maybach’s own rule. That is to say: without visible Mercedes-Benz logos, but under the skin, the whole brand is elaborated on the technique of the parent brand. The 57 is the “entry-level model”, the 62 is the extended variant. Faster S variants will follow in 2007. The cars are seen as the superlative of the Mercedes-Benz S-class. There is of course also a price tag. In the Netherlands, new prices for the minimum 550 hp strong limousine fluctuate between the, sit, € 534,539 and € 711,460!

The renewed Maybachs make their appearance at the 2010 Auto Show in China. A different grille, LED daytime running lights, different taillights, new wheels and other options such as a 19-inch screen for the rear passengers should get the cars a little bit more up to date. However, it does not seem enough, because a little more than a year later Daimler announces that it wants to stop Maybach as a standalone brand. Not much later, the plug is therefore withdrawn from production. However, the name doesn’t really disappear as a luxury label returns. Think of it as the counterpart of the sporty AMG label. After a Mercedes-Maybach S-class, an SUV of the luxury label followed for the first time in late 2019: the GLS. With the Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury today was previewed exactly two years ago on a fully electric and extremely luxurious SUV.
