Samsung has released a new series of micro-SD cards, with the emphasis on sustainability and multifunctional use. In addition, the maps are linked to the Sonic The Hedgehog universe, with gaming figures that are linked to various storage capacities of 128, 256 and 512 GB and 1TB based on color and figure.
Technology
The controller Ensures that the 1TB cards are economical, so that less energy is used. In combination with V-NAND technology, under controlled conditions with a high-speed SD card reader, read/writing speeds can be achieved up to 180/130 Mbps. With the ECC/LPDC error correction, even more writing and reading cycles are possible, resulting in a safe storage over a longer period. The micro-SD cards are supplied with an adapter.
Sustainability
The MicroSD cards are designed to resist water, high temperatures, X-rays (such as on airports) and magnetic fields. Moreover, they can survive a considerable fall and be changed without any problems up to 10,000 times. The cards are supplied with a very long but limited warranty of 10 years. The warranty applies to a maximum number of TBWs (Total bytes Written) And therefore does not cover continuous use in dashcams and security cameras.
Multifunctional use
Thanks to the aforementioned specifications and performance, the cards are versatile and extremely suitable for use in game computers, action cameras, drones, smartphones and of course also in standard digital photo and video sets.
Performance
The UHS speed class of the cards is U3, which stands for a minimum writing speed of 30 MB/s. The application performance class is A2, with minimal reading and writing speeds of 4000 and 2000 IOPs respectively. The video speed class is V30, which means a minimum writing speed of 30 MB/s and makes the cards suitable for 4K video recordings.
During tests with a high-end workstation with built-in SD card reader, we measured sequential average speeds of 96 MB/s for reading and 90 MB/s for writing with crystaldiskmark. With an external high-speed SD card reader, connected via USB 3, USB 4 or Thunderbolt, the maximum performance is achieved. However, this link is often not available in the equipment that is recommended for these cards. The aforementioned transfer speeds were measured with both the 128GB and 1TB models, formatted in both Exfat and NTFS. These values are in line with the specifications of this type of SD cards and are therefore suitable for recordings up to 4K video.
Conclusion
This set of micro-SD cards is suitable for various circumstances, both challenging and less demanding. The maps offer reliable storage capacity and are ideal for recordings up to 4K.
