Review: Veritas is a puzzle game for patient sleuths

Veritas is a game full of mystery: sometimes so much mystery that you don’t know where to look. Patience is a virtue in this puzzle game.

Veritas review: a game full of mystery

Imagine: you wake up in a small room, with no memory of how you got there. All you remember is that you took part in a Veritas Industries study and followed the friendly doctors in white coats. But now you wonder if they were real doctors…

The whole building is deserted, cupboards have fallen over and there are pools of blood here and there. There is an ominous atmosphere and you have the feeling that something is not right. You investigate the dark, mysterious building yourself to find out what happened and where everyone is. But that is not easy: many doors are locked and you have to find your way through the deserted corridors.

Each puzzle brings you closer to the truth

Along the way you have to solve all kinds of puzzles. With your found camera you take pictures of clues and write notes here. Later you can view the photos again to use them for solving puzzles. The camera is a fun way to stay active in the game. This makes you feel like a real detective.

For example, do you see some characters or a strange poster that you don’t know if and what to do with it? Chances are you’ll need it later to solve a code. To make sure you don’t have to keep walking back, take pictures of any clues. Unfortunately, the photos are not sorted, so you have to search between all your photos to find a particular photo.

Great game with many puzzles

You must have searched the entire facility before you know what happened and how to escape. But that also means that you must have had every room. In a corridor there are sometimes several doors with clues behind them. In addition, it is a large game where there is simply a lot to see.

It is therefore quite a job to research everything and to solve puzzles. Also because it takes a while before you realize exactly what you need to solve a puzzle. So your patience will be put to the test, so you are sometimes tempted to close the game if it doesn’t work out for a while.

But it is precisely at such moments that it is worth holding on for a while, if you have enough patience for it. You’ll find yourself reaching the eureka moment to solve a puzzle if you search a little longer.

Curiosity takes over

The further you get into the game, the more you understand how the puzzles work. You will automatically notice that you get better at it and go through the game faster. Because you learn more and more, you remain curious and you also want to find out the truth. That makes you want to keep playing.

In addition to puzzles and clues to solve these puzzles, you will also find several short letters scattered around the building. Most of the ones you find belong to one Christina. You’ve forgotten who she is, but it seems she’s trying to tell you something about where you are. At the top of the screen you can also see the thoughts of the main character. Pay attention, because there are also clues about certain puzzles and obstacles.

Interesting game, but not for impatient players

Small sparkles on certain objects help you know where to go for clues more quickly. If you really want to test your detective skills, you can also turn it off, so that you have to search the entire room yourself. On an iPhone screen, the details in a room are hard to find. It is therefore recommended to play this game on an iPad.

Veritas is an interesting puzzle game, which is beautifully made and very large. Because it is sometimes unclear where to start to solve a puzzle, it can sometimes take a long time to progress. If you are impatient, this game is not for you. If you like a challenge and are looking for an escape room-like puzzle game, then Veritas is the right place for you.
