CAD drawings reveal iPhone Fold design differs from other brands

Foldable smartphones seem to be here to stay and according to various rumors we can also expect an iPhone Fold from Apple. There is a good chance that we will be introduced to the foldable iPhone for the first time this fall.

It was unclear for a long time what exactly Apple’s first foldable iPhone would look like, but new CAD drawings show the design for the first time. The drawings are leaked by Sonny Dicksona well-known informant when it comes to new smartphones and Apple products. We list the leaked details for you.

CAD drawings reveal iPhone Fold design

Sonny Dickson has unveiled two schematic drawings of a smartphone that looks strikingly similar to the iPhone Fold. Although there is limited information available, the drawings provide a clear impression of what we can expect.

In recent years, Sonny has shared such information more often and it often turned out to be correct, which makes the reliability of these drawings high. Accessory manufacturers often use these sketches to develop cases and other accessories.

Passport design

What is immediately noticeable about the drawings is that the design differs from the foldable smartphones of other brands. Apple seems to be opting for a more compact and wider device that is the size of a passport when closed, and a longer version when unfolded; this makes the iPhone Fold more reminiscent of a longer version when unfolded; This makes the iPhone Fold more reminiscent of a landscape iPad when opened.

Camera platform with two lenses

The iPhone Fold has clear similarities with the iPhone Air, both in terms of materials and design. The back of the foldable iPhone resembles that of the iPhone Air and has an elongated camera platform with two lenses. At the top center of the front there is a small ‘punch hole’ for the selfie camera. As soon as you open the device, there is a new selfie camera in the top left corner.

It remains unclear to what extent this design corresponds to the final product. Nevertheless, the drawings already show strong similarities with recent rumors about the first foldable iPhone.

iPhone Fold in short

Current rumors surrounding the iPhone Fold point to a late 2026 launch, with a passport/book-style foldable design including a near-invisible fold thanks to advanced hinge and panel technology. The inner screen measures approximately 7.8 inches and the outer screen measures 5.5 inches, plus optimizations in iOS for multitasking.

The new device would be equipped with Touch ID instead of Face ID, similar to the iPad Air. The casing can be made from titanium and stainless steel and shares many similarities with the iPhone Air, including a camera platform with two lenses (wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle), as well as a selfie camera on both the outside and inside.

There is speculation that Apple will name its foldable smartphone iPhone Ultra. Rumors have been circulating about the arrival of an iPhone Ultra for some time now. It was initially thought that the Ultra would eventually replace the Max, but it seems much more logical that the foldable iPhone will be named ‘iPhone Ultra’.

This is how expensive the foldable iPhone will be

According to the latest information, the iPhone Fold is expected to launch in September 2026, with a price of around $2,400 in the United States! This would be the most expensive iPhone ever, especially in Europe, where the price is expected to be around 2,800 euros due to taxes, import duties and the Apple tax.

However, there are reports that Apple may want to market the iPhone Fold cheaper. This would make the device accessible to a wider audience, and Apple could really compete with existing foldables from other brands. However, the Fold will probably become the most expensive iPhone at that time.
