The Dutch and Belgians don’t seem to get enough of good weather apps. Weerflash is a weather app that relies heavily on its users. The app is based on the principle of sharing information. If the sun shines or it rains, report this in the app. The information is shared with the rest of the users. Moreover, they can confirm the findings of others. The app also has a nice history: its development was largely funded by crowdfunding.
The app works with a points system, where reliable users are rewarded for their reports. A ranking is kept and you collect as a user badges. The gamification approach is reflected in those badges: unique badges can be unlocked. As a user, you get extra points if your weather report is validated not only by the system, but also by other users.
Weerflash also pays attention to historical data. You use this time frameswhich shoots you to previous events. You can then filter by specific conditions, such as cloudiness or sunshine. You can also see trends via a separate trend map. At each time of day you can see which weather phenomenon took place. Naturally, the reliability of the app largely depends on the number of users (for both reporting a status and validating it).
