The corona crisis provides unprecedented peace on the Dutch roads. You would say it was a good time to work on the road. Rijkswaterstaat thinks that too, so the service is looking at bringing forward projects.
Normally Rijkswaterstaat naturally tries to plan as much as possible around crowds when it is working on the road. A lot of work is done at night and on weekends, to spare the rush hour as much as possible. Now there is hardly any traffic on the roads due to the corona crisis, which of course offers opportunities. To avoid the crowds and later nuisance, Rijkswaterstaat is therefore highlighting various maintenance to the road network, Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen tells the House of Representatives.
According to the minister, the choice to get started right now offers advantages on two fronts: “This not only provides extra work for the construction industry, but also ensures that there is less nuisance when the weather is busier on the road. “Reformatorisch Dagblad notes. Van Nieuwenhuizen does not yet indicate which projects will actually be tackled earlier, but indicates that, for example, it is now possible to start re-paving lanes on certain routes or ‘other maintenance work’ be taken.
