Roadside assistance purchases 50 Volkswagen ID4s

The ANWB Wegenwacht is supplementing its fleet with 50 electric Volkswagen ID4s. The roadside assistance service will deploy these cars in the Randstad conurbation and around large cities elsewhere in the country. By 2030, the entire fleet of more than 900 Wegenwacht vehicles must be emission-free.

With the purchase of the electric cars, the ANWB Wegenwacht also wants to anticipate the arrival of the so-called ‘zero emission zones’ in large cities. De Wegenwacht eventually opted for the ID4 after a trial period. According to the breakdown service, the vehicle has more than sufficient range, is cost-effective and offers sufficient space for the tools that the road guards have to carry around. In order to properly store the tools, the cars are fitted with custom-made cabinets.

The new addition to the Wegenwacht fleet brings the total number of roadside assistance vehicles to more than 900. In addition to the ID4, the Wegenwacht also claims to have three hydrogen-powered vehicles at its disposal for a number of years now. The Wegenwacht already added a Volkswagen e-Golf and a Nissan e-NV 200 to the fleet. The first is based at Schiphol. The Roadside Assistance also drives around with three electric motorcycles.

In addition to purchasing the extra electric cars, De Wegenwacht says it is also working on the development of an infrastructure for charging stations at its own buildings so that all EVs can be charged in the future. By 2030, the Wegenwacht’s fleet must be completely emission-free.
