Every Wednesday Rob Coenraads writes on pcactive.nl in ‘Rob about’ an article that he experiences, encounters or interests. This time it is about Signal, because this chatapp has to take over from WhatsApp. Then there must be more users to Signal and adjust a setting in Signal.

Many people look at an alternative to WhatsApp for several reasons. An important reason is the fact that Signal Privacy takes so seriously that it encrypts data so that Signal itself cannot read messages or listen to conversations. Some major tech companies that also offer chatapps do and there we come to the second reason: some want to depend on large tech companies. And Signal has been developed by the no-profit Signal Foundation and Signal Messenger LLC. That is something different than roughly a meta, owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Incidentally, you can still use WhatsApp in addition to Signal as long as not everyone has switched to Signal.

Switching and adjusting
That switching to a new chatapp is not that difficult in itself and is clearly explained in the article: How do I switch from WhatsApp to Signal?
Once you have switched, you still have to adjust another institution, at least with me it was not ‘on’. The point is whether or not you will receive a notification if a telephone contact can now also be reached on Signal. In Signal, click the three vertical dots at the top right, then tap Settings and then notifications. For notifications, check at the very bottom of whether the slider is on the right and you will therefore receive a notification if a telephone contact can now also be reached on Signal.
