Rotterdam is the best city for electric cars

ALD Automotive has assessed the fifty largest municipalities in the Netherlands on the basis of five criteria: charging station density, the costs per kWh, the application time for a charging station, the minimum distance between charging stations and the availability of online information about electric driving. The ten municipalities that scored best on this were presented with a questionnaire about municipal EV policy. The municipalities of Amsterdam, Delft, The Hague, Gouda, Nissewaard, Rotterdam, Schiedam, Utrecht, Leidschendam-Voorburg and Zoetermeer reached the top 10, but there can only be one winner.

That winner is Rotterdam. The expert jury of ALD Automotive, including our own Marc Klaver, calls Rotterdam’s EV policy ‘progressive and clear.’ The jury is of the opinion, among other things, that the municipality is taking ‘a good example’ with the EV policy for the municipal vehicle fleet. “Rotterdam has an eye for the interests of the EV driver. For example, in Rotterdam you can still charge for 26 ct/kWh at a public charging station. A city with a strong public network and with more and more fast charging points,” said jury member Marina van Helvoort of the Electric Drivers’ Association. The municipality of Rotterdam offers companies in the logistics sector that use electric vehicles advantages such as longer loading and unloading times.
