Ruska Regina (1969) – Lover Wanted

When you think of special creations based on a Volkswagen Beetle, you immediately think of the well-known ‘Buggies’. However, there was once a Dutch company that did much more unusual things with it: Ruska. This Ruska Regina can be yours!

The simple basis of the Volkswagen Beetle lent (and lends) itself well to all kinds of other four-wheeled creations. The best known is undoubtedly the ‘Buggy’, an open leisure vehicle with an often quite adventurous appearance. The Dutch Ruska, founded by Amsterdammer Arie Ruska, also built such Buggies, but it didn’t stop there. There were also many special, very classic-looking Ruskas, inspired by real classics. This included the Ruska Regina, which, with a little imagination, looks a bit like a Morgan 4/4 Series I. Now there is one of those for sale.

Somewhere in the second half of the 1970s, a relatively young Volkswagen Beetle (from 1969) was stripped to the bottom and transformed into this Ruska Regina. The special carriage is largely made of fiberglass, the dashboard is actually little more than a wooden plank with cutouts for the instruments. The Ruska Regina has room for four people, although you shouldn’t expect too much from sitting in the back. Of course not in terms of performance either, because in the back there is still the well-known air-cooled boxer engine of the Beetle. By the way, working on this has become a little more complicated because of the Regina’s carriage; After removing the oval cover plate, the engine only partially emerges.

All in all it is a special creation, such a Regina. Kitschy or not; In any case, you will drive exceptionally well! The previous owner has done that for the past 17 years, now someone else can take it on the road. They just have to come up with €9,950 (or a good offer). Would that be worth it to you?
