The Russian car industry has collapsed massively this year. Only 325,000 passenger cars were built in Russia in the first eight months of this year, Rosstat reports. The production volume is therefore just a third of what it was in the first eight months of 2021.
Various car brands have completely withdrawn from the Russian market and various large suppliers have also turned their backs on Russia as a result of the invasion of Ukraine. The production of new passenger cars is therefore steadily declining. Only about 25,000 new passenger cars were produced in Russia in August, almost 70 percent less than in the same month last year.
That brings the total number of new passenger cars built in Russia in the first eight months of this year to just 325,000. That is about 65 percent less than the production tires were running between January and August last year. In that period of 2021, more than 916,000 passenger cars were still being built in Russia. Lada, Russia’s largest car manufacturer, is slowly but surely ramping up the production of its cars again.
