Safer swiping on Tinder: dating app now more secure

Popular dating app Tinder has improved security. That happened at the insistence of a US senator. You should know this.

Tinder security improved

Do you use the dating app Tinder? Then you give the app a lot of information about yourself. Think of photos, your personal profile, swipes and of course the chats with your matches. After a US senator urged in a letter to make the app more secure, Tinder has processed this criticism.

Security company Checkmarx discovered the unsafe sides of the app at the beginning of this year. Tinder sent photos of users unencrypted. This made it possible for a malicious person on the same network to exchange profile photos, for example for advertisements or nasty images.

It was also possible to see all actions of someone in the app. That’s because each action had a different file size. When Senator Ron Wyden found out about this, he wrote a letter to the creators of Tinder last February.

In response to Senator Wyden, writes Match Group from Tinder now that actions can no longer be read, and that all images in the app are now fully encrypted. “Like any technology company, we are constantly working to improve our defenses against malicious hackers and cyber criminals,” writes Match Group’s Jared Sine.

More competition

Tinder is no longer the only major dating app in the App Store. Match Group now has a lot of competition. The Dutch can also be found on apps such as Happn, Badoo and Bumble. In the App Store, Tinder is also getting more and more negative reviews. Among other things, there are complaints about the amount of fake accounts.

Tinder does have the best technology. For example, you can link a Spotify account to match music and the app selects the best photo for you. The app can be downloaded from the App Store via the button below.
