Sales of electric delivery vans are on the rise

Sales of electric vans increased by 180 percent in February compared to the same month in 2020, according to figures from VWE Automotive. This also shows that the Chinese SAIC, thanks to its company car brand Maxus, is head and shoulders above the rest of the top 10.

At the end of 2020, sales of electric vans already took off, partly thanks to the increasing number of online purchases due to the corona measures. According to VWE, for example, as many electric delivery vans were sold in November and December as in the first three quarters of that year. November is a record month to date with 376 copies sold. In February, sales of electric vans rose 180 percent to 216 units, from 75 units in the same month last year. The fact that the sales of electric delivery vans are growing so fast is also because the supply is increasing noticeably. Stellantis has the Peugeot e-Expert, Opel Vivaro-e and Citroën ë-Jumpy in its range. Toyota has the Proace Electric with Stellantis powertrain and Mercedes-Benz launched the eVito last year.

However, the leader of the top 10 for the first two months of this year is not a European manufacturer. That is SAIC with the Maxus commercial vehicle brand, of which 82 units of the EV80 were sold in the aforementioned period. In second place comes the Nissan e-NV200, the only descender in the list. This is probably because the other manufacturers have taken market share from Nissan. Last year, the e-NV200 was one of the few electric delivery vans for sale. The Renault Kangoo ZE closes the podium with 35 units sold, 11 more than in 2020. Furthermore, the ninth place for the Goupil G4, the electric delivery van that is particularly known here from the delivery service Picnic.

The number of electric delivery vans on Dutch roads is expected to grow even further this year, because a new purchase subsidy will be available from 15 March: the Emission-free Company Cars Subsidy Scheme. This allows companies to be reimbursed up to € 5,000 per company car, with a net list price of at least € 20,000. The government is earmarking a total of € 22 million for this in 2021.
