New car sales from Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz and Smart, are recovering from the corona crisis. The past quarter was relatively normal in terms of numbers.
According to Daimler, 625,675 Mercedes-Benz and Smart passenger cars were sold worldwide in the third quarter, an increase of 1.2 percent from a year earlier. In the first nine months of this year, there was still a decline in sales of more than 13 percent.
According to Daimler, especially in China, good business was done with the sale of its main brand Mercedes, with a plus of more than 23 percent. A slight negative was still visible in Europe. In North America there was a stronger decline in sales. Mercedes sales on the German home market were on the rise. There they recorded a plus of 1.9 percent.
The Stuttgart company held its investor day on Tuesday. New strategic plans were also announced. Daimler wants to become a leading player in the field of electric driving. For example, there will be electric variants of the sporty cars from the subsidiary brand AMG, the luxurious limousines from Maybach (Mercedes-Maybach EQS) and the Mercedes G-class. Under the EQ label, important new electric models such as the EQS and EQE (electrical equivalents of the S-class and E-class respectively) will appear in the coming years.
