Almost 9 percent added in February

Sales of new cars in the Netherlands rose remarkably fast in February. There was an increase of 8.9 percent, the largest increase in months.
The sales figures for February are known. The Bovag, Rai Association and RDC calculate that 30,414 new cars were registered in our country in the past month. An increase of no less than 8.9 percent compared to the same month last year. De Bovag speaks of the ‘highest increase in months’ and a ‘catching up of the car market after a number of difficult years’. To date, 2024 represents a growth of 7 percent compared to the first two months of last year.
It is also striking that petrol cars were in third place last month. Of all new cars, the lion’s share (29.7 percent) had a hybrid drivetrain, followed by fully electric cars in second place (27.3 percent). Models with only a petrol engine followed next, with a 27.1 percent share. At some distance were plug-in hybrids, with a 14.1 percent market share. Diesels only accounted for 0.9 percent market share and LPG cars for 0.8 percent.
Volvo XC40 back on top
Believe it or not, the Volvo XC40, which is now quite old, has once again finished at the top. No fewer than 1,442 of these were registered in the past month, good for a 15.5 percent market share. This is mainly due to the fully electric XC40 Recharge, which will soon be known as the EX40. No fewer than 1,285 of the 1,442 XC40s registered last month have an electric drivetrain. This immediately made it the best-selling electric car of February. That does not give Volvo the leading position as a brand; that goes to Kia, which also had the second best-selling model in our country with the ever-popular Picanto.
