Samsung and Coolblue Energie have been working together since last week to deliver the electricity that is used for free of charge between 12:00 and 15:00 hrs, which is used by participating Samsung-Wasautomaten. This saves consumers on their energy costs and also offers benefits as a more stable energy network.

Users with a dynamic Coolblue energy subscription and a participating washing machine from Samsung that is connected to the SmartThings app can benefit from free electricity for their washes between 12:00 and 15:00. This not only makes washing cheaper, but also offers other benefits, because a lot of solar energy is generated during this period and the power grid is less loaded.
The cooperation between Samsung and Coolblue Energie is an answer to the increasing demand for smarter solutions to manage energy consumption in the house. By planning the power consumption of white goods- a large part of the average household consumption- at times when there is a lot of solar and wind energy available, the pressure on the overcrowded power grid is reduced and we use as much sustainably generated energy as possible.

Expansion to other devices via SmartThings
Samsung’s ambition and that of Coolblue Energie extends beyond washing machines. Thanks to the integration with SmartThings technology, which connects all smart Samsung devices, both parties are investigating the opportunity to extend the cooperation later this year to other Samsung Smartthings devices, such as tumble dryers. Many Samsung devices can be used with the Samsung SmartThings technology, which clears the way for future extensions and further help to consumers in managing their energy consumption.

Strategic vision and future plans
According to Michiel Okma, Director Consumer Electronics at Samsung Benelux, this partnership underlines the joint strategic vision of Samsung and Coolblue Energie: “Together we help consumers to manage their energy consumption as low as possible. With Samsung Smartthings, a solid basis has now been laid for further expansion of this collaboration.”
Marijn van Weele, director of Coolblue Energie, emphasizes the considerable impact that can be achieved with their energy subscriptions. He points out that white goods are responsible for around 35 percent of the power consumption of an average household. As the market leader, Coolblue sells 450,000 white goods devices per year. With the consumption of these devices together, Rotterdam can be provided with light for three years. By shifting this consumption to the afternoon, between noon and 3 p.m., we can use more wind and solar energy, according to him and thus make white goods part of the solution and reduce the pressure of the overcrowded power grid.
