1 euro for 1 euro
Tank & Rast, the company that operates almost all filling stations along the German Autobahn, is increasing the prices of the well-known Sanifair toilets in Germany. A visit to the toilet costs 1 euro from November 18, but there is a positive caveat.
As far as we know, Sanifair is the party that devised the principle of the voucher for toilet use at petrol stations. For years and years you have paid an amount when you enter a Sanifair toilet, for which a voucher is also awarded in addition to access. That voucher can be issued in the shop. Initially, a visit to the toilet cost 50 cents and you also received a voucher of €0.50. The voucher value has remained the same until now, but a toilet visit at Sanifair currently costs 0.70. So you always lose 20 cents.
That changes now. Sanifair increases the price of a toilet visit from €0.70 to €1.00, but also offers a voucher of one euro. As before, you can in principle go to the toilet ‘for free’, although we cannot rule out the possibility that the prices in the shop will also be slightly adjusted to the new value of the receipts. The changes will take effect on November 18.
By the way, don’t think too quickly to avoid that euro by seeking refuge in the bushes. Public urination is prohibited in Germany, even outside built-up areas, and can therefore turn out to be much more expensive than such a visit to the toilet.
