The Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE stunt bike that featured in the recent James Bond film No Time to Die has been sold to British auction house Christie’s for a record £138,600. The proceeds go to a good cause.
The recent auction of James Bond items at British auction house Christie’s was the first in a series of Sixty Years of James Bond – Live Auction auctions to be held in the near future.
The last lot of part 1 was the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE stunt bike used in the movie No Time to Die. The bike was used in the action-packed opening scene of the film, when it was ridden by the villainous villain Lyutsifer Safin’s assassin Primo. The Scrambler then passes into the hands of James Bond, who uses it for a chase scene through the narrow Italian streets, culminating in an epic jump to the piazza.
The Scrambler 1200 XE used for those stunts was specially prepared to withstand the rigors of the Italian action scene. Stunt coordinator Lee Morrison worked with the Triumph team to create a stunt bike that would not only perform at a high level, but also look good. Stunt riders Paul Edmonson and Martin Craven did the action scenes with the Scrambler.
The auction house had previously estimated the Scrambler’s revenue at £20,000 to £30,000, but that was only the beginning. The engine, which is not type-approved and therefore not allowed to be used on public roads, brought in a record £138,600, more than 10 times what the registered engine costs new in the UK.
