Scroll faster on your iPhone and iPad: this is how you do it

iOS 13 is full of useful little features. A good example of this is the ability to scroll a lot faster than you are used to. In this tip we explain how the function works.

Faster scrolling on iPhone and iPad in iOS 13

Advance Note: iOS 13 is currently in beta and not officially available yet. The final version will be released simultaneously with the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max during Apple’s keynote in September. The function below only works when you are running the public beta of iOS 13. Here’s how to scroll faster on iPhone and iPad:

  1. Open an app with a scroll bar on the right, such as Safari;
  2. Scroll down or up a little so that the bar on the right side comes forward;
  3. Keep the bar pressed until you feel a small vibration;
  4. Move your finger up or down and you will notice that scrolling is a lot faster than before.

The new function is especially useful when you want to browse through a long website, or search for a tweet from years ago on someone’s profile. Faster scrolling seems to work in almost all apps with a scroll bar. I’ve tested it in Safari, Notes, Twitter, and Photos, among others. Despite this, there are also a few apps that fail, such as Google Chrome.

More about iOS 13

After iOS 12 restored the chaos of the previous version, with iOS 13 it’s time to look ahead again. For example, the new software update introduces a dark mode, Safari has been overhauled and the download limit in the App Store can be lifted.

The iPadOS keyboard also provides more screen space and you can connect to a WiFi network faster. Check everything about the software update on our iOS 13 overview page, or watch the video below:
