Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel will drive for Aston Martin’s new F1 team next year, but it will not stop there. The German has taken an interest in the British brand.
Aston Martin and Formula 1 are already inextricably linked, even if the Racing Point team has yet to be renamed. Lawrence Stroll, father of driver Lance Stroll, took a huge stake in the brand at the beginning of this year. He also provided an additional capital injection. The brand new CEO was heading for at least one big feat: the renaming of Racing Point to Aston Martin F1. It was recently announced that driver Sergio Perez will not drive for it next year, but four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel. He now also joins Stroll as a shareholder in the brand. That reports Motorsport.com.
It is not clear how important is Vettel’s stake in Aston Martin. The question is also whether it is on his own capital, or whether it is part of his contract with Aston Martin F1. Vettel wanted to confirm on Friday that he has shares, but did not give much more detail about it. “Anyone can invest in it,” the German said Motorsport. “How much that is for me is a second. I don’t talk about that.” However, he stressed that he simply ‘believes in the brand’. Mercedes-AMG F1 team principal Toto Wolff is also a shareholder of Aston Martin. This is of course also related to the fact that the brand and the F1 team use engines from Mercedes-AMG. Wolff is also a major shareholder of Mercedes-AMG.
