On the second-hand market, diesel cars will continue to be more popular than used electric cars in 2024. This and more is evident from figures released by Automotive Mediaventions.
In the statistics of new passenger cars registered in the Netherlands, cars with a diesel engine appear to be on the verge of death. Diesel cars are doing a lot better on the used car market. In fact, in almost every month of last year there were more searches for used diesels than for second-hand EVs on the sales platforms Gaspedal.nl and Autotrack. That trend will continue until 2024.
Also in March this year, there were more searches for second-hand diesel cars on Gaspedal.nl and Autotrack than for electric used cars. This is evident from figures released by Automotive Mediaventions – the parent company behind the two sales platforms. In March, 7.4 percent of searches were for a used electric car, while 8 percent of searches were for a used diesel car. Diesel hybrids accounted for 1.3 percent of searches in March.
The average asking price of a second-hand car offered on Gaspedal.nl and Autotrack was €23,401 in March. The average search price from site visitors was €17,475 in March. The gap between the average search and asking price has narrowed slightly, but is certainly not small. In March, Volkswagen was again the most popular brand on Accelerator and Autotrack. The most popular used car was also from that brand again in March: the Volkswagen Golf. In no less than a quarter of the searches in which a body style was entered, the station wagon was chosen. Hatchbacks finished in second place (22.2 percent).
