Security packages from the provider

Protecting your devices with a security package from your provider, is that beneficial or not?

As an extra service, the major carriers offer packages that protect your device. In all cases, more or less the same package is sold: from the Finnish F-Secure. But is it beneficial to accept your provider’s offer? Or is it better to buy a package yourself? We put the options of the major providers together.

The packages that the providers offer are based on F-Secure SAFE-package. This is an all-round security package for various devices. To be able to compare, we need to know what it costs to purchase this package from F-Secure without an intermediary. The costs are annually:

  • up to 3 devices: 59.90 euros
  • up to 5 devices: 79.90 euros
  • up to 7 devices: 99.90 euros

Ziggo has three packages: Safe Online, Safe Online L and Safe Online XL. Safe Online is free for anyone who purchases a Ziggo subscription that includes internet. The package can be used on one device and protects against viruses and spyware.

If you want more, you can switch to Safe Online L. This package costs 3.95 euros per month and can be used on up to five devices. It protects against viruses, spyware and includes protection for surfing and internet banking. Safe Online XL costs 6.95 euros per month and can be used on 20 devices.

In short: Ziggo’s paid option is also cheaper than ordering via F-Secure itself.

KPN has the KPN Safe package on offer. You can use this security package against viruses and spyware on two devices (PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone) free of charge if you have taken out an Internet and TV or an Internet subscription with KPN. For 5 euros per month you can protect three additional devices. If you have an Internet and TV 4K package, you pay nothing extra for securing five devices.

In short: KPN’s paid option is also cheaper than ordering via F-Secure itself.

TELE2 calls its package Safe Internet. Costs are 4 euros per month. The security package is only for computers with Windows and can be used on three devices.

Telfort has Telfort Safe: a security package that can be used on three devices (PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone) for 5 euros per month. It can be used on a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Vodafone has a security package available for users who combine Vodafone and Ziggo. In that case you will receive a package worth 7 euros per month. This allows you to secure 20 laptops, smartphones and/or tablets. It is unclear whether this is only the first (few) month(s), or continuously.

Online.nl has no information about a security package, so it is unclear whether the provider offers that service.

Provider XS4ALL keeps it simple and clear. All customers can install F-Secure Internet Security for free. On up to five devices. Whether this is a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone.
