While the chip shortage still grips the auto industry in 2022, trailer sales shot to record highs. Nu.nl reports this based on information from Bovag.
More than 27,000 trailers were sold in the Netherlands in 2021, 13 percent more than a year earlier. About 4,000 of these were purchased by contractors and gardeners, according to information from Bovag. This is partly related to the fact that more has been invested in renovations and landscaping since the corona crisis, Bovag explains to Nu.nl. There is also more trade in second-hand cars, as a result of which the sale of trailers on which you can put a car also increased. More than 1,600 of these were sold last year, about 27 percent more than a year earlier.
But it’s not just car dealers, contractors and landscapers who are responsible for the increase in trailer sales. According to Bovag, almost 20 percent more boat trailers were sold last year and horse trailer sales increased by 13 percent.
