The US state of California has already set a deadline for the sale of new fuel cars, but if it is up to two senators, President Biden will set a nationwide end date.
More and more governments are making it clear when the sale of new cars with only one combustion engine will be restricted. For example, the United Kingdom will stop doing so in 2030 and from 2035 (plug-in) hybrids will no longer be sufficient. The US state of California will switch to pure electric cars in 2035. This means that the extremely progressive state is ahead of national policy, because there is not yet such a deadline across the whole of the US. That must change, say two US senators.
They call President Biden according to Reuters to follow California’s lead and set an end date for fuel cars across the US. To date, the Democratic president has refrained from hard deadlines. However, the 78-year-old announced at the beginning of this year that he wanted to renew the entire fleet of the American government in the coming years and thereby switch to pure electric cars. The Biden government is also working on tightening the emission requirements. His predecessor, Donald Trump, actually eased that.
