Send a moving picture to someone with WhatsApp. That can be an existing gif or make your own.


A GIF is a moving picture or short video without sound lasting a few seconds, played in an infinite loop (“loop” or “walk’). Think of images of a dancing dog or someone clapping their hands. For example, use a cake with lit candles to send to someone for their birthday. There are already many existing gifs. This is how the website GIPHY there are thousands. You can also just use this in WhatsApp. But it is also possible to make your own gif.

  • Open WhatsApp.
  • Tap the tab chats.
  • Tap the chat with the person you want to delight with a gif.
  • Tap the plus sign next to the text box.
  • Tap on Photo and video library.
  • Tap on GIF.
  • The overview with some gifs opens. Is the desired one not listed? Type a keyword in the search bar.
  • Tap a (short) video to watch it.
  • The gif plays over and over, without end. Above the video is a sort of scroll bar. Makes the video shorter with this, if you want.
  • Tap the text bar at the bottom and type an accompanying message if you want.
  • Tap the send button.
  • Launch WhatsApp.
  • Tap the tab chats.
  • Tap the chat with the person you want to delight with a gif.
  • Tap the emoji next to the text box.
  • Tap at the bottom GIF.
  • The overview of GIFs opens. Tap the magnifying glass icon to find a gif.
  • Type a keyword in the search bar.
  • Tap a (short) video to watch it.
  • The gif plays over and over, without end. Tap the text bar at the bottom and type an accompanying message if you want.
  • Tap the send button.
