Winter time is around the corner again. But sometimes that causes problems on your iPhone. We show you what to do.
Troubleshoot daylight saving time issues on your iPhone
The clocks will go back an hour on Sunday morning, October 29 at 3 am. The transition to winter time should not actually cause any problems for your iPhone, but this has happened sometimes in the past. Check the tips below to ensure that winter time does not cause any problems.
1. Check your alarm clock
It has happened in the past that the alarm clock continued to go off at the old time after winter time had started. So the first tip is to check whether the alarm clock still works properly and the time is correct. Open the Clock app and tap ‘Alarm Clocks’ at the bottom. Check whether the time is still correct.
2. Set winter time automatically
Your iPhone should already take winter time into account. You must have this option enabled. You can check this as follows:
- Make sure you have the latest iOS version installed;
- Open the Settings app and tap ‘General’;
- Tap ‘Date & Time’ and activate the ‘Set automatically’ option.
If the time zone is incorrect, you can correct it as follows:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap ‘Privacy & Security’ then ‘Location Services’;
- Tap ‘System’ at the bottom and activate ‘Set time zone’.
3. Set date and time manually
You can also set the date and time manually. This may be necessary, for example, if you have iOS 9 or older and your country, region, or government decides to change the time zone or the use of winter and summer time.
- Open the Settings app and tap ‘General’;
- Tap Date & Time, then turn off Set Automatically;
- Adjust the time zone and/or date.
Your iPhone will now no longer have any problems with the time during the entire winter period. We are already counting down to summer time, which starts on March 31, 2024.
