Fiat and Opel will receive affordable EVs

The new Citroën ë-C3 is on a new cheap basis that is certainly not reserved for the new electric hatchback. There will be a total of at least six other new models from Stellantis. This seems to mean that Stellantis has a whole range of price-wise attractive models in its pipeline.
The Citroën ë-C3 and the new C3s with combustion engines to be released later are on a basis derived from the CMP platform, which Citroën refers to as the Smart Car platform. We already know that Citroën also has an (electric) successor to the C3 Aircross on that basis in the development rooms. But Smart Car technology is certainly not reserved for Citroën.
Renaud Tourte – head of the Smart Car project – tells ‘Automotive News’ that ‘about seven’ Stellantis models will be on the Smart Car platform of the Citroën ë-C3. At least two other Stellantis brands will use the base, according to Tourte. With a probability bordering on certainty, AutoWeek can already say that these are Fiat and Opel.
Citroën announced the successor to the C3 Aircross and the current technical sister model of that crossover – the Opel Crossland – will also receive a successor in the foreseeable future. Opel previously confirmed this. It is likely that the Crossland successor will also be on the Smart Car platform. That car would – just like the current Crossland – be positioned one step below the Mokka. There is already an electric version of the Mokka. Opel already said this year that it will launch an electric car ‘costing around €25,000’ in 2026. We have already shown the new Crossland in a camouflage suit. What turned out? That car also seems to share its silhouette with the Indian C3 Aircross. Fiat has a new Panda in the development rooms. The new Fiat Panda will also be a technical brother of the Citroën ë-C3.
