Share Internet on iPhone

Share iPhone’s mobile Internet connection with other devices. This can be done via a personal hotspot.

Do you want to go online on a device that doesn’t have internet? And is there no (secured) WiFi connection? Then share the iPhone’s mobile internet connection. Turn on the personal hotspot function and connect a tablet, laptop or computer to the phone. By also using the mobile internet connection on other devices, the data bundle is used up faster. Depending on the subscription, costs will be added or the connection will be slower.

To use the iPhone’s Internet, first enable Personal Hotspot. Here’s how to do it on an iPhone with iOS 12 or later.

  • Tap on Institutions.
  • Tap on Personal Hotspot.
  • Tap the slider behind “Allow others to connect” (iOS 15) or “Allow others to connect” (iOS 13/14) so that the slider turns green.
  • If bluetooth is turned off, you will receive a message in iOS 13 and 14 whether you want to turn it on. This is only necessary if you want to connect via bluetooth. Then tap Turn on Bluetooth. Do you want to connect via WiFi or USB? Then tap Wi-Fi and USB only.

The hotspot is discoverable and ready for use.

On the other devices, the iPhone’s Personal Hotspot is in the Wi-Fi network overview. You need a password to actually connect to the hotspot. The iPhone creates this by default. But you can change the password:

  • Tap on Institutions > Personal Hotspot.
  • Tap on Password (Wi-Fi).
  • Tap the icon of a circle with a cross after the password.
  • Create and type a new password. The password must be at least eight characters long.
  • Tap on Ready.

To pair the two devices together:

  • On the device with which you want to log into the hotspot, open the Wi-Fi settings. For example, on the iPad, tap Institutions > Wi-Fi.
  • Tap the hotspot connection. It’s called “iPhone from XXXX,” where XXXX is the name you entered when setting up the iPhone.
  • Enter the password provided on the iPhone under ‘Password (Wi-Fi)’ and tap Connect.
