Does it make more sense to shower in the evening or in the morning? Both have advantages and disadvantages. We explain when it’s worth showering in the morning and when it’s worth showering in the evening.

Shower in the evening or in the morning – that is a question that divides opinion. On the one hand, it depends on your personal preferences what time of day you choose. On the other hand, showering in the morning or in the evening also offers different advantages. Here you can find out what you should pay attention to.

When is it worth taking a shower in the morning?

Whether you shower in the evening or in the morning – both have their advantages. If you shower in the morning, you wake up faster. You can increase your attention and concentration, especially with cool water, because the low temperature releases adrenaline.

Even if you sweat a lot at night or have greasy hair, a shower in the morning is recommended.

What’s the point of taking a shower in the evening?

With an evening shower you can free yourself from the dirt of the day. Showering in the evening also relaxes your body. This will make you more tired and allow you to sleep better.

Especially for people with sensitive skin, it is recommended to shower in the evening instead of in the morning. This is supposed to promote the regeneration of the skin’s protective acid mantle.

Showering both in the evening and in the morning can make sense. It is your decision what is more important to you and what fits better into your daily routine.

Shower in the evening or in the morning: This is how to do it sustainably

Regardless of whether you shower in the evening or in the morning: you should pay attention to sustainability. With these five tips you can shower as economically and environmentally friendly as possible and avoid common showering mistakes:

  1. Take short, lukewarm or cold showers: Make sure not to shower too often or for too long. For your personal hygiene, it is sufficient to shower two to three times a week. Above all, you should make sure that you only ever shower briefly and keep the temperature low. In this way you counteract unnecessarily high energy and water consumption.

  2. Only soap the most important parts of your body: whether in the evening or in the morning, you don’t have to soap your entire body when showering. It is enough if you soap the areas where grease and odors come from. The skin layers on the arms and legs in particular can dry out quickly. You protect them by showering them with clean water. But be careful: you shouldn’t forget your feet when soaping, as they produce a lot of sweat.

  3. Avoid washing your hair every day: It’s best to only wash your hair once or twice a week or at most every other day. Otherwise the scalp will dry out. You also save a lot of water and energy by washing your hair less. You can find out more about this in this article: How often to wash your hair: This often is healthy.

  4. Use natural cosmetic products for showering: Conventional shampoos and shower gels often contain questionable ingredients. These are harmful to both your health and the environment. It is therefore worth relying on certified natural cosmetics that are free of microplastics and other synthetic substances.

  5. Showering with low water pressure: If you pay attention to low water pressure when showering, you can save a lot of (warm) water. You can either reduce the pressure manually or choose to invest in a power shower head.
