Thieves are increasingly targeting the exterior mirrors of cars. In Waalwijk, a large number of car owners had to deal with this this week. In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, many cars were the target of thieves. The police call it striking that only the glass of the exterior mirrors has been stolen from dozens of vehicles. Many full side mirrors have also been stolen and that is better explained: modern side mirrors are popular among thieves, because the mirrors contain more and more expensive technology. A Tesla wing mirror would fetch around $1,300 on the black market.
In Goirle, also in North Brabant, it was mainly Teslas that suffered last week. They have cameras on board that start recording when the car is touched, but that did not stop the thieves. According to the police, thieves often work to order, so they steal what is in high demand at the time. With the car mirrors it can be purely about the special glass, or the technology that is incorporated in the side mirrors. Police are calling on victims to report the incident.
