Significant increase in private lease cars, but business wise dip

The lease market is being shaken up by the corona crisis. At least, this is evident from new figures from the Association of Dutch Car Leasing Companies. In the past six months, the lease car fleet grew by half a percent thanks to a decrease in business leasers on the one hand, but a striking growth in private leasing on the other.

The fact that we work from home a lot this year is noticeable in the number of business lease contracts with lease companies affiliated with VNA. In the first half of 2020, the number of business lease cars (under VNA) on the country’s roads decreased by 9,318 units. A shrinkage of 1.5 percent. In total, this now concerns 624,437 business lease cars. On the other hand, there is apparently a greater need for private transport on a lease basis. The share of private lease cars increased by no less than 7.5 percent in the first six months of this year.

Another striking fact is that the number of leased delivery vans, in contrast to business passenger cars, has grown slightly; 1.2 percent to be exact. However, the enormous growth in private leasing means that delivery vans with 174,514 units are now less represented than private lease cars (177,771 units) for the first time. The total lease car fleet affiliated with VNA now consists of 971,486 cars. As mentioned, that is half a percent more than last year.
