Simca 9 Sport: the shape was especially sporty – In the Wild

We understand if the Simca brand no longer means much to some people and certainly the models from the 1950s will only ring a bell for few people. That is precisely why it is so nice that a real Simca 9 Sport has now surfaced.

In short, Simca was founded before the Second World War as a French manufacturer that marketed Fiat models under a different name. According to this construction, the Simca 8 also saw the light of day in the second half of the 1930s. Essentially it was a Fiat 1100, the big brother of the ‘mouse’, the Topolino. The Simca 8 was certainly not the most creative car, but with its technology Simca went its own way in the early 1950s. The Simca 9 Aronde, undoubtedly still known to some, was the result, but also this Simca 9 Sport.

The 9 Sport looked a bit like its Aronde brother, especially at the front, but it was of course a different story, especially towards the rear. It was a sports coupe as you often saw in the 1950s, with almost some British lines at the rear. Despite its name and its sporty appearance, it was still primarily a modest car. It simply had the same 1.2 four-cylinder engine as the Simca 8 already had and which was also in the Simca 9 Aronde. However, with 50 hp it was just a bit stronger. Weighing just under a ton, the Simca 9 Sport – built by Facel – was not very light for its time and was therefore not really smooth.

AutoWeek forum member MX6 found this blue 9 Sport and shared the photos in the spotter topic. It is on German records and so the data cannot really be retrieved. We suspect that it is a 1953 example and without a doubt it is a car that was once fully restored. In any case, it looks nice with its shiny, voluptuous blue carriage in the spring sun. Nice spot!
