Siri has received a number of improvements in iOS 15. We will tell you here which new functions the voice assistant has had.
Siri in iOS 15: New Features
Siri has become smarter in iOS 15. The voice assistant has received a number of new tricks in iOS 15. Unfortunately, not all new features are available in Dutch.
Better in iOS 15: Siri can make connections and ask questions
Siri now understands when you ask questions about a specific topic. For example, if you have asked ‘What are the opening hours of the Beekse Bergen?’ you can immediately ask further with ‘And how far is it?’ Siri will then tell you how far it is to the Beekse Bergen. This doesn’t always work well, but Siri is getting better and better at making connections like this.
Easily share music and photos
Do you have a nice photo you want to share from your iPhone? Or do you want to send a song to your friends? You can now do that with Siri in iOS 15. When you’re listening to a nice song in Apple Music, for example, you only have to say: ‘Send this to Dominique’. Siri immediately puts the song ready in a message. Then all you have to do is say ‘Yes’ when Siri asks if the message can be sent.
Using Siri offline: not yet in Dutch
Siri has received even more functions, but they are not yet available in Dutch. One of these features is that you can also use Siri offline. Siri will then only process the voice commands on your phone and they will no longer be sent to Apple’s servers.
It is still possible to use the function, but there are two rules attached to it. You must have an iPhone with an A12 Bionic chip (or newer). This is the iPhone XR or iPhone XS and newer. In addition, you need to set Siri to ‘English (United States)’. And you do that in the following way.
Here’s how to use Siri offline in iOS 15:
- Open ‘Settings>Siri & Search>Language’;
- Select the ‘English (United States)’ option;
- Tap Siri & Search in the top left and go back one page;
- Turn on the option ‘Listen to ‘Hey Siri’ and execute the English voice commands;
- Siri is now ready for offline use.
After you have set Siri offline, your iPhone must remain connected to the WiFi for a while. Siri needs to download some data first. Sometimes this can take a while and you never know exactly when the data will be in. So you have to try Siri offline every now and then.
If you want to use Siri offline, it is of course not possible to perform searches on the web. You can use Siri, among other things, to call someone, change the settings of your phone or set an alarm.
There are also a number of advantages to using Siri offline. The data does not have to be sent online first and the speech assistant sometimes responds a little more smoothly. In addition, the offline use of Siri is also less privacy sensitive, because no data is forwarded.
