Skoda is scaling back the production of the Enyaq iV. The brand announced this today. The reduced production is the result of supply problems caused by the war in Ukraine. Unlike Volkswagen, Skoda is not completely shutting down production for the time being.
The supply chain problems of Volkswagen and Skoda have arisen because a number of suppliers are located in the western part of Ukraine. For that reason, Skoda indicates that the production of the Enyaq iV will be reduced from this week. The brand does not say exactly how many cars it concerns. AutoWeek has asked importer Pon to what extent the reduced production of the Enyaq iV will affect the waiting time of Dutch customers.
The war in Ukraine is particularly bad for Skoda. Russia is the brand’s second market, with sales of more than 90,000 cars in 2021. Ukraine is also a stable market for the brand, although it is a lot smaller with about 6,000 cars per year. In Solomonov, Ukraine, the brand produces the Superb, Kodiaq, Karoq and Fabia Combi for the Ukrainian market. That production is logically still at the moment. Skoda indicates to help the employees both financially and materially, whereby Ukrainian employees can, among other things, get a place in the Czech Republic to be able to build a new life.
In Russia, Skoda’s plants in Nizhny Novgorod and Kaluga are still running. The brand says its sales strategies and business activities in Russia and Ukraine are currently the subject of “intense discussions.” The brand takes into account that sales will drop significantly, Skoda does not make any statement about the possible exit from the Russian market. Skoda is responsible for the Russian and Ukrainian markets on behalf of the Volkswagen Group.
The Volkswagen Group is not the only car manufacturer to be affected by the war. Renault, the parent company of the Russian AvtoVAZ, is also concerned about the assembly of cars in the Russian region.
