Skoda will seriously limit car production for the rest of this year or even stop it altogether, Reuters news agency reports. However, that does not mean that no more cars will be delivered.
The cause of the planned stop is of course the chip shortage that is plaguing the entire car industry. Because of that shortage, Skoda was already forced to extend the summer break. According to Reuters, the brand has also built up a huge stock of cars that are almost, but not yet completely complete. It would concern tens of thousands of cars, which can be completed and delivered with the addition of the chips that Skoda can still get.
Nevertheless, Skoda expects total production for this year at the level of 2020, when ‘only’ 1.15 million cars were delivered due to the corona pandemic. Previously, it was expected that it would be 1.3 million units in 2021.
