The Skoda Enyaq has been on the market for less than a year, but has already broken the necessary sales records. In the last months of 2021, the SUV was the best-selling EV in the Netherlands and it even reached place 5 in the general models top-10 throughout 2021. That promises something for a slicker variant. It has just been unveiled and we were in Mladá Boleslav earlier this month to take a closer look.

Highlights

  • Positioned higher
  • First electric RS
  • In the spring to our country

A coupé version of an SUV might be a bit pompous for a modest brand like Skoda, but the success of the Enyaq clearly left us wanting more and that more is what we’re looking at now. The word ‘more’ has a double meaning here, because the Enyaq Coupé also comes – and first – in the superlative, namely as RS. That is also the first fully electric RS from Skoda.

RS is the version that we see in the first photos of the Enyaq Coupé and that is also the version that we filmed in the Czech Republic at the beginning of this month. But rest assured, there are also less expensive variants on the price list. In total, Skoda offers a choice of four motorisations. What they have in common is a slimmer roofline with a glass surface that flows almost seamlessly into the rear window, giving the carriage three quarters behind from a kitchen step a Tesla look. Due to the more favorable Cw value and its lower weight, the Coupé drives just a bit more efficiently than the regular Enyaq, promises Skoda.

Interior

The dashboard of the Coupé is identical to that of the SUV. It is nicely tidy and is constructed with fresh, modern lines. The 5.3-inch digital cockpit and 13-inch infotainment screen are standard. This also applies to the separate climate control and the glass roof. The versions with a heavier battery also have paddles on the steering wheel that allow the degree of braking power regeneration to be regulated according to taste and circumstances.

Colors and materials are bundled in ten atmosphere packages from which you can choose. There are two exclusive compositions for the RS, including carbon-look panels and sports seats with RS logos. In the rear, the Enyaq Coupé offers generous legroom and a surprising amount of headroom, thanks to the glass roof taking up less space than a conventional roof.

Motorizations

With regard to the powertrain, there are four configurations to choose from. The most modest Enyaq Coupé is the iV 60. It has its engine and drive on the rear axle (because of the MEB platform) and offers 180 hp and 310 Nm. The battery capacity is 62 kWh, of which 58 kWh is used effectively. If you want a little more power, choose the iV 80. Not only does it have 204 hp at the rear wheels (with the same torque), it also has a heavier battery: 82 kWh (77 effective) and that is also the Enyaq Coupé with a WLTP range of 545 km is the furthest on a charge. The Enyaq Coupé iV 80x has the same battery, but an extra power source on the front axle, making it a 4×4, with a system output of 266 hp and torque of 425 Nm.

Finally, the RS also has that 82 kWh under the floor and a second engine in the front, but with a total of 299 hp and 460 Nm. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, with a top speed of 180 km/h (the other variants are adjusted to 160 km/h). The rear-wheel drive Coupés can tow a maximum of 1,200 kg when braked, the two versions with four-wheel drive can hitch a maximum of 1,400 kg.

The Enyaq Coupé iV gets a maximum of 135 kW on the fast charger, with which the 82 kWh version goes from 5 to 80 percent charge in 29 minutes. Three-phase alternating current delivers a maximum of 11 kW (full in 6 to 8 hours), it charges the normal household network with 2.3 kW.

Skoda will put the Enyaq Coupé at dealers in May. That starts with the RS, by the end of the summer the less extreme versions will follow. Nothing is known about prices at the moment, but partly in view of the richer standard equipment, we can assume that the Coupé will be slightly higher than the SUV.
