Skoda Enyaq Coupé opens its jacket

It is no secret that Skoda is working on a Skoda Enyaq Coupé. Whether that flattened version of the electric Skoda Enyaq iV deserves the name ‘coupé’ is doubtful, but there is probably an advantage to this body shape.

The Skoda Enyaq iV has only just arrived, but the second body variant is already on its way. The Enyaq Coupé (working title, by the way) can be seen as the production version of the Vision iV from 2019. The beaten Enyaq has been spotted before, but now takes off half of its camouflage jacket. This makes it easy to see that the front corresponds exactly to the Enyaq already presented. The test cars carry the somewhat more aggressive front bumper of the Founders Edition, which will undoubtedly also be optionally available for the regular versions.

Of course, the back, where the news can be found, will still be packed tightly. From the B-pillar, the Enyaq’s roofline starts to descend to end at a large liftback tailgate. The rear window is very flat, but still gets a wiper. In terms of layout, the butt corresponds to that of the regular Enyaq. For example, the horizontal rear light units seem to survive the operation, although they may be connected to each other by a fashionable LED strip. The number plate can keep its place directly under the tailgate.

Actually, it is quite remarkable that the Skoda in particular gets an electric SUV with a sloping roofline. This body shape does not seem to fit for a meter with the practical, down-to-earth brand from the Volkswagen stable, but this is the way the Czechs want to go. Such an Enyaq Coupé seems, just like its peers, a car that you buy purely because you find it more beautiful than the regular version. Major drawbacks are a loss of space and an undoubtedly higher price tag. In the case of an electric car, however, an advantage of this body shape becomes even more obvious: such a car is usually more streamlined. An Audi E-tron Sportback is therefore slightly more efficient and therefore comes a little further on a full battery than a regular E-tron. Teslas do not have a drop-shaped carriage for nothing …
